Napoleon - malování 3-D tisku / painting a 3D print WIP

Malování 3-D tisku je v podstatě velmi podobné malování resinu. Tedy vyžaduje důkladné očištění toho, co budeme chtít malovat. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o 3-D tisk, tak odpadá riziko toho, že by byl výtisk mastný. Resin mastný není a díky tomu, že výtisk důkladně vyčistíme isopropylalkoholem/vodou, tedy tím, čím, je nutné použitý resin vyčistit,  tak se mastnoty nemusíme bát. I vodou omyvatelný resin se dá omývat isopropylalkoholem, jenže pak to postrádá smysl použití vodou omyvatelného resinu. 

 

Painting a 3-D print is essentially very similar to painting resin. So it requires a thorough cleaning of what we want to paint. Since it is 3-D printing, there is no risk of the print being greasy. The resin is not greasy and thanks to the fact that we clean the print with isopropyl alcohol/water, i.e. what is necessary to clean the resin, we don't have to worry about grease. Even water-washable resin can be washed with isopropyl alcohol, but then it misses the point of using water-washable resin.

 

Jakmile je - odteď budu mluvit o bustě Napoleona - busta řádně očištěná a vytvrzená, nastříkáme jí základovým sprejem. Vzhledem k drobným detailům doporučuji použít buď klasický sprej k tomu určený, nebo použít stříkací pistoli. Samozřejmě jde použít i klasický štětec, jenže tam je třeba pracovat opatrně, protože hrozí zalití detailů.

 

Once - from now on I will talk about the bust of Napoleon - the bust is properly cleaned and hardened, we spray it with a base spray. Considering the small details, I recommend using either a classic spray designed for this, or using a spray gun. Of course, you can also use a classic brush, but you have to work carefully there, because there is a risk of flooding the details.

 

Když barva zaschne - pozor, musí být řádně zaschlá, ne jen na povrchu -  můžeme aplikovat první, základní, vrstvu. A to opět štětcem či stříkací pistolí. Raději několik vrstev po sobě, než jednu, která zalije detaily. Jedná se o něco, co se v podstatě nedá odstranit jinak než kompletním odbarvením. Pak maluje tak, jak jsme zvyklí. Ale o tom až příště.

 

When the paint dries - be careful, it must be properly dry, not just on the surface - we can apply the first, basic, layer. Again with a brush or spray gun. I prefer several layers in a row rather than one that covers the details. This is something that basically cannot be removed other than by complete bleaching. Then we paint as we are used to. But more about that next time.

Napoleon - busta z busty

Napoleonova busta z muzea Torvaldsen

Tato monumentální busta byla vytvořena sotva deset let po Napoleonově smrti. Busta byla objednána na jaře 1829 jedním z mnoha tehdejších obdivovatelů Napoleona, skotského statkáře a politika Alexandra Murraye z Broughtonu. Murray si přál, aby busta odpovídala způsobu, jakým byli římští císaři zobrazováni. Mělo to vypadat, jako by Napoleon byl vynášen na orlích křídlech až na Olymp, domov antických bohů a polobohů. Vavřínový věnec a štít jsou atributy moci.

This monumental bust was created barely ten years after Napoleon's death. The bust was commissioned in the spring of 1829 by one of the many admirers of Napoleon at the time, the Scottish landowner and politician Alexander Murray of Broughon. Murray wanted the bust to match the way Roman emperors were depicted. It was to look as if Napoleon had been carried on eagle's wings up to Olympus, the home of the ancient gods and demigods. The laurel wreath and shield are attributes of power.

3-D busta. 

Tato busta je dostupná jako tzv. free, tedy zdarma *.STL soubory. STL je akronym pro stereolithografii. Tedy významů má více, ale v 3-D tisku je to oblíbený formát, se kterým dovedou pracovat tzv. slicery, tedy počítačové programy, které upraví třeba právě soubory STL tak, aby šly vytisknout na 3-D tiskárně. Free pak znamená, že je soubor volně stažitelný a neplatí se za něj. Tento soubor jsem nalezl již na několika serverech, kde lze najít jak placené soubory, tak i ty zdarma. 

Nedá se totiž říct, že kdy je něco FREE, tak je to špatné a platí to i opačně. Vždy je třeba si rozmyslet,  zda si chceme koupit i drahé soubory, z nichž je v balíčku třeba jen jeden, který si chceme namalovat, či zda si počkáme na slevu, poohlédneme se jinde. Ono totiž placené soubory jsou jednak svého druhu spotřební zboží, takže je možné si počkat právě na slevu, či někdy je i autoři po čase uvolní ke stažení zdarma, případně to udělají ihned jako ochutnávku a pak na kickstarteru a podobných platformách nabídnou zbytek za peníze. Někdy se také stane, že co je někde zdarma, je jinde za peníze, přičemž ceny se mohou lišit. Správci úložišť to kontrolují a kradené STL soubory obratem mažou. Bohužel to však není pravidlem. Stejně jako není možné si být absolutně jistý, o jaký typ souboru se jedná. Tedy někdy je to jasné, pokud jste na webové stránce autora. Jindy to však skutečně nepoznáte. Třeba mnou již vytištěná čarodějnice Ruth patří mezi placené. Na jiných serverech jsem ji nenašel, proto mám za to, že je to originál. Byť tedy s digitální kopií se to má tak, že jak soubor jednou máte, můžete si ho vytisknout, kolikrát chcete a výstup bude vždy stejný, tedy máte-li lepší tiskárnu, bude lepší. Osobně jsem příznivcem obojího. Třeba takovou Ruth budu muset upravit, protože nemá ruce.  To však beru jako to nejlepší na modelování.

 

 3-D bust.  

This bust is available as a free *.STL file. The STL is an acronym for stereolithography. Well, it has more meanings, but in 3-D printing it is a popular format that so-called slicers can work with, i.e. computer programs that modify, for example, STL files so that they can be printed on a 3-D printer.  

 

'Free' then means that the file is freely downloadable and there is no charge for it. I have already found this file (the Napoleon bust) on several servers where you can find both paid and free files. It cannot be said that when something is FREE, it is bad, and the opposite is also true because sometimes ti is made in very poor quality. I strongly do not recommend such files.

 

We always have to think about whether we want to buy expensive files, of which there is perhaps only one in the package that we want to paint, or whether we wait for a discount or look elsewhere. The paid files are, on the one hand, consumer goods of a kind, so it is possible to wait for a discount, or sometimes the authors release them for free download after a while, or they do it immediately as a taster and then offer the rest of the package for money on kickstarter and similar platforms. Sometimes it also happens that what is free on one server, is for money in another, and even the prices may differ. Repository administrators check this and immediately delete stolen STL files. Unfortunately, this is not the rule. So it is impossible to be absolutely sure what type of file it is. It's clear if you're on the author's website. Other times, though, you really don't know. For example, the witch Ruth, already printed by me, is among the paid ones. I couldn't find it on other servers, so I think it's the original file. 

 

Although with a digital copy, once you have the file, you can print it as many times as you want and the output will always be the same. If you have a better printer, it will be better. Personally, I'm a fan of both. Maybe I'll have to edit Ruth like this because she doesn't have arms. For me it's great news, I consider this to be the best thing about sculpting.

 

 

 

Má verze busty Napoleona

Po pěti a půl hodině (přesně to bylo 5 hodin a 33 minut) byl výtisk hotový. Po odstranění opor, opláchnutí busty a vytvrzení na slunečním světle, které trvalo asi půl hodiny, jsem měl v rukou bustu. Bude na ní ještě potřeba provést několik úprav, hlavně tedy broušení a zatmelení otvoru na hrudi. Ten jsem mimochodem udělal sám před samotným tiskem, protože jen tak se zbavíte resinu uvnitř busty, kterou je třeba ve sliceru Tato busta je zakázka, která  udělat dutou. Otvory musejí být minimálně dva, protože pak může resin volně odtékat. Druhý otvor je zespodu busty, takže není vidět. Když budete dělat otvory, udělejte je na takových místech, abyste neponičili žádný detail a zároveň se k nim pak snadno dostali. 

Tato bust je zakázka, takže bude - oproti mramorovému originálu - z bronzu. To mi přijde jako výborný námět na další článek. Totiž jak namalovat bustu z 3-D tiskárny.

My version of a bust of Napoleon 

 

 After five and a half hours (it was exactly 5 hours and 33 minutes) the print was ready. I removed supports, rinsing the bust and curing it in the sunlight (the sun was really shining today), which took about half an hour. 

 

Finally, I had the bust in my hands. It will still need to make a few adjustments, mainly sanding and plastering the hole on the chest. By the way, I did this myself before the actual printing, because that's the only way to get rid of the resin inside the bust. Zhis must be done in the slicer. There must be at least two holes, because then the resin can drain freely. The second hole is from the bottom of the bust, so it is not visible. When you make holes, make them in such places that you do not destroy any detail and at the same time they are easy to get to. This bust is a commission, so it will be - as opposed to the marble original - in bronze. This sounds like an excellent topic for another article. Namely, how to paint a bust from a 3-D printer.

 

Co jsem se dnes naučil?

• 5. Je důležité dbát na to, abychom nezapomenuli na to , že velké kusy je    dobré udělat duté a otvory přístupné tak, abychom se k nim snadno dostali.
• 6. Ne všechny STL soubory zdarma jsou špatné. Je však třeba si je řádně zkontrolovat a vyhnout se pirátským kopiím.

What did I learn today? 

•  #5 It is important to take care not to forget that it is good to make large pieces hollow and the openings accessible so that we can easily reach them. 
• #6 Not all free STL files are bad. However, you should check properly and avoid pirated copies.
  

Čarodějnice Ruth - 3D tisk

 

První 'vážný' tisk dopadl úspěšně. Což tedy nemusí být pravidlem, ale jak se 3D tiskárny zlepšují, skoro by to šlo tak říkat. K popisu samotné busty, její očištění a složení dohromady, se dostanu příště. Tisk trval pět a půl hodiny. K tisku jsem opět využil vodou omyvatelný resincopymaster3D.  

Vodou omyvatelný režim zapáchá skoro stejně jako klasický (tedy  omyvatelný isopropylalkoholem (IPA)) s ním rozdílem, že se mi s ním  lépe manipuluje. Resinů je tedy více druhů, které se od sebe liší vlastnostmi, ale základ je to stejný. Je to jed. V tekutém stavu, nutno dodat. Jakmile je tvrdý, je bezpečný. Ovšem proto je nutné používat maximální možnou ochranu. Tedy polomasku s filtrem proti plynům, ochranné brýle a rukavice. K podrobnostem se dostanu v samostatném článku. S resinem se to má ve zkratce tak, že někomu v dané chvíli jakoby nevadí (časem se však projeví), naopak jinému opravdu přímo smrdí a u dotyčného může nastat klidně i prudká alergická reakce. Pokud však nemáte kvalitní ochranné brýle - pamatujte, že se resin do očí může dostat i ze strany obyčejných brýlí, protože si ho můžete cáknout na obličej  (ano, o podobném případě jsem neslyšel, ale vyloučit to nelze, zvláště když se učíme, jak s 3D tiskem). No a pak to může skončit zcela fatálně. 

Ovšem zpět k Ruth. Jedná se o zakoupený STL soubor, dokonce i s podpěrami/bez nich. Občas se uchýlím k anglickému výrazu supported,  což je právě ono. Aby totiž tisk dobře vyšel, je potřeba ho správně opatřit podporami. V určitých případech tisk správně probíhá i bez podpor, ale to jsou velmi konkrétní případy a je nutno vědět, jak na to. Osobně se ještě necítím dost zkušený, abych to dělal ručně, proto se zatím spoléhám na automatiku, případně pokud již podpěry jsou, použiji je. S podpěrami se to nesmí přehánět - je to zbytečné a přeci jen určitou dávku resinu spotřebují. Byť ne moc.

O podporách jsem mluvil proto, že ač je fotografie ne právě kvalitní - omlouvám se - tak podpěry je nejlepší odstranit jen ještě před samotným vytvrzením tisku (sluneční svit / vytvrzovací stanice). Jakmile totiž resin ztvrdne, velmi rád se vyštípne. Jednak tedy  to znamená, že ochranné brýle jsou nezbytné i v tomto případě, protože kapka resinu v oku může napáchat stejně škody jako kus resinu zaseknutý v oční bulvě.

Co jsem se naučil?
3. Bezpečnost je nutná, o všem se dá diskutovat, ale o tomto ne!
4. Existuje více resinů, ale v tekutém stavu jsou všech jed.
5. Podpory je nejlépe odstranit před vytvrzením.

 

The first 'serious' print was successful. Which may not be the rule, but as 3D printers improve, you could almost say that. I will get to the description of the bust itself, its cleaning and putting it together, next time. In a separate article. The printing took about five and a half hours. I again used the water-washable resin 'copymaster3D' for printing.  

 

The water-washable resin fits almost the same as the classic one (that is, washable with isopropyl alcohol (IPA)), with the difference that it is easier to handle (at least for me it so). There are several types of resins that differ in properties, but the basis is the same. It's poison. In liquid state, must be delivered. it is immediately hard, it is safe. However, it is therefore necessary to use the maximum possible protection. That is, a half mask with a gas filter, safety glasses and gloves. I will get into the details in a separate article. In short, the thing with resin is that it doesn't seem to bother someone at a given moment (however, it becomes apparent over time), on the other hand, it really stinks for someone else, and the person in question may even have a severe allergic reaction. However, if you do not have good safety glasses - remember that resin can get into your eyes from the side of ordinary glasses, because you can splash it on your face (yes, I have not heard of such a case, but it cannot be ruled out, especially when we are learning how to 3D printing). And then it can end quite fatally. 

 

 Back to Ruth. This is a purchased STL file, even with/without supports. Sometimes I resort to the English term supported, which is exactly that. In order for the print to come out well, it needs to be properly supported. In these cases, you need to print correctly even without support, but these are very specific cases and you need to know how to do it. Personally, I don't feel experienced enough to do it manually yet, so I'm relying on automatics for now, or if the supports are already there, I'll use them. You mustn't overdo it with the supports - it's unnecessary and they only use a certain amount of resin. Although not much. I talked about the support because the photo is of high quality - sorry - so it is best to remove the supports before the actual curing of the print (sunlight / curing station). The resin hardens right away and is very easy to chip. On the one hand, this means that protective glasses are also necessary in this case, because a drop of resin in the eye can do as much damage as a piece of resin stuck in the eyeball.

 

What did I learn today?  

#3  Safety is necessary, everything can be discussed, but not this!  

#4  There are several resins, but in the liquid state they are all poison.  

#5  It is best to remove supports before curing.

První 3D tisk

První tisk z 3D tiskárny je konečně hotový. Určitě nedopadl nejhůř, ale ani nebyl bez chyb. Poměrně mnoho chyb. Lze je však poměrně snadno odstranit změnou nastavení. Tato nová série bude o 3D tisku jako o jakémsi deníku někoho, kdo o tom mlátí jako o nudli v láhvi. Ale jak se říká, těžko na cvičišti, lehko na bojišti. Koneckonců, můžeme vidět, jak to dopadne, když to odfláknete. Nechme politiky a hurá na 3D tisk.

 První tisk dopadl překvapivě dobře. Tedy pro mne. Když se na něj podíváte, zjistíte, že je třeba provést další nastavení. Hlavně tedy čas osvícení. Trvalo to hlavně proto, že jsem chtěl vyzkoušet vodou omyvatelný resin. A pak také proto, že jsem si říkal, že je moc zima, málo světla... Ale o tom až příště, kdy se pustím do složitějšího tisku.

Pozn.: Čekání na vodou omyvatelný resin nebyl promarněný čas. Ač tedy zapáchá velmi podobně (čti: hodně), ale dá se snadno omýt vodou. Použití takového resinu však vyžaduje trochu jiné nastavení. Použitý resin byl značky copymaster3D.

 

The first print from the 3D printer is finally done. It certainly isn't the worst, but it wasn't without mistakes either. Quite many mistakes. However, they can be removed quite easily by changing the settings. This new series is gonna be about 3D printing as a kind of diary of someone who's thrashing about it like a noodle in a bottle. But as they say, hard on the training ground, easy on the battlefield. After all, we can see how it turns out if you eff it. Let's leave the politicians and cheers for 3D printing.

The first print went surprisingly well. Well, for me. When you look at it, you will find that there are additional settings to be made. Mainly the time of enlightenment. It took mainly because I wanted to try the water-washable resin. And then also because I thought it was too cold, not enough light... But I'll talk about that next time, when I start more complicated printing. Note: Waiting for the water-washable resin was not wasted time. Although it smells very similar (read: a lot), it can be easily washed off with water. However, the use of such resin requires a slightly different setting. The resin used was of the copymaster3D brand.
